The Customer

As one of the world’s largest food and beverage manufacturers, Kraft Heinz holds some of the most iconic brands in American food production—Heinz, Kool-Aid, Planters and Oscar Meyer, just to name a few. After 150 years in food manufacturing, Kraft Heinz brands are known worldwide, with products made and marketed in more than 40 countries and boasting global sales of approximately $26 billion.

The Situation

Kraft Heinz’s 125,000 sq. ft. production facility in San Diego, California, was in dire need of an upgrade. The existing lighting was a mix of outdated and inefficient T8 & T5HO fluorescent gasketed enclosures, high bays and strip fixtures. FSC Lighting worked closely with the plant manager and lighting distributor to create a dynamic lighting layout that promoted a safe working environment.

The Solution

The project included the installation of forty-two 80-watt LED wide body gasketed enclosures with sensors in the holding freezers and coolers. FSC’s L7900 series is essential to any industrial or commercial applications where the ambient temperature is low; the enclosure is constructed of a fiberglass upper body and an acrylic diffuser, resulting in a completely moisture resistant fixture. In addition, the facility can benefit from installing a cooler light source, which often reduces HVAC costs.

Kraft Heinz didn’t stop there, fifty-three high bays and fifty strip kits were installed in the warehouse and receiving areas. The difference between the existing fixtures and FSC’s LED solution was immediately noticeable; the quality of light was drastically improved from a dreary yellow to an aesthetically pleasing natural white.
